Discuss interesting cryo-ET publications in Delmic online Journal Club

Review leading cryo-ET publications with Delmic's club members

Starting from this month Delmic’s brand-new type of webinar series will take place, called Delmic Cryo-Electron Tomography (Cryo-ET) Journal Club. This journal club will be held like a podcast, where our experts will discuss leading articles in the field of cryo-ET. It’s our hope that we can help you stay tuned with technological advances and exciting biological discoveries that employ the cryo-ET technique.

The first episode of cryo-ET journal club will shed some light on the article Ribosome-associated vesicles: A dynamic subcompartment of the endoplasmic reticulum in secretory cells – which was published in Science Advances this year. The authors make excellent use of the diverse capabilities of the cryo-ET technique. They identify a new membranous compartment and perform sub-tomogram averaging to get structural information on protein complexes. Additionally, they use 3D segmentation to obtain quantitative data on the membrane compartments in the cell. This impressive collection of uses of cryo-ET data shows the power of the technique for cell biology studies.

Delmic's application specialists, Marit Smeets and Caspar Jonker, will primarily focus on how the authors used the combination of techniques and how they interpreted the data to come to their conclusions. The discussion will touch upon the impact of the paper on cell biology and on cryo-ET technology development. You are also welcomed to share your thoughts in the chat during their live discussion!
